Frequently asked questions

MRZ Scanner 2: what it reads, where it runs, licences and keys. Not here? Read the docs or ask us.

What does MRZ Scanner read?

The machine readable zone (MRZ) of passports (TD3), ID cards (TD1 and TD2) and machine readable visas. It returns the MRZ text, the parsed fields (names, document number, nationality, dates of birth and expiry, sex and more) and whether the check digits match. You can limit a scan to some document types.

Which platforms are supported?

iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter, .NET MAUI, Capacitor, Cordova, Windows, Linux, Python, and WebAssembly in the browser (early access). See Platforms.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Recognition runs on the device or on your own server, and the licence key is checked on the device too. No image or document data is sent anywhere unless your app sends it.

How do I try it?

Create an account and get a 30-day trial key under My licences at once. A trial key covers the platforms and apps you list.

Do I need a key for each platform?

No. One MRZ Scanner 2 key covers every platform and app ID in your licence.

When does a licence key expire?

A trial key ends with the trial. A paid key works until the last paid day of your licence plus a grace period (90 days unless agreed otherwise). Each renewal issues a new key, which we e-mail to you, so you can ship it in your next release before the old key ends.

How much does it cost?

Standard licences are listed on Pricing. For more devices, more platforms or metered use, ask for a quote.

Who sells MRZ Scanner licences?

MRZ Scanner is part of barKoder, which sells and supports the licences through this portal. MRZ Scanner licences are separate from barKoder SDK licences. More about the move.

I use MRZ Scanner 1.x. Do I have to upgrade?

Apps on 1.x keep working with their 1.x keys. MRZ Scanner 2 has new packages, one API on every platform and a new reader; it needs an MRZ2 key. See Upgrading from 1.x, or ask us to move your licence.

Where do I get help?

Read the documentation, or open a support ticket in the portal.
